Question about control-mounted mirrors
11/30/12 at 13:50:39

As I'm weighing my handlebar options and would like end-mounted mirrors, I noticed that the stock mirrors are housed in the controls.  That mounting point will be left open with the stock mirrors removed, like a tree stump after the tree was cut.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed, but I've never noticed.  What did people who have changed their mirrors out do?  Just leave the mount stump?  Cut it off?  Change out the controls completely?  I mean, the master cylinder is part of the brake control too, so all new controls and master cylinder would be necessary to eliminate this issue.

Feedback appreciated!  Cool

One of the mirror mounts is a part of the clamping piece.

A few have broken them off and have refinished them to remove the stub.

You might see if anyone has one they already broke off, as it's a $20 item if you change your mind.

I see what you mean...The mirror on the right is mounted to the clamping section, separate from the master cylinder.  So this one could potentially be eliminated by obtaining another clamping section sans mirror mount from another bike?

The one on the left is part of the clutch lever housing, so that one would have to be cut off.

Anybody have pics of what they've done...either removed altogether, or removed mirrors and left the mounts?

Welll, I turned the one on the right up-side down, and mounted it that way...(keeps rain out the hole)...
The one on the left, I put a plastic cover in (kinda' like the chrome ones over the bar mounts, only black... Ace hardware)...
Huh...

I was just saying, if you're gonna cut one up, might as well cut one up that has less to cut up... or something like that. Smiley

I have one just like that.  (Broken, not cleaned up)  If anyone wants it let me know.

well another option if you want it to blend well, is to cut off the stubs then take them to a welder or a friend that has the capability to weld aluminum and fill in the area then grind and contour to make it look like it was never there.
