Stock bike air mixture setting (Read 67 times)

BOBD Full Member Offline Posts: 170 Blacklick, Ohio Gender:	Stock bike air mixture setting 11/28/12 at 11:08:12 How far out should the air mixture screw be on a stock S40? I live at 1000ft above sea level. I would like to get the best gas mileage possible, because of the small gas tank.

Now, turn it in slowly clockwise,.. and listen for when it starts to get a bit stumbly... then, back it back out 1/4 turn from there... That'll be the leanest point for best mpg's...

The idle mixture has very little.... if anything to do w/ mileage at speed. If the bike is running good at all speeds, the only real noticable adjustment for mileage is that round thing on the end of the RS handlebar ! But then, you knew that

Agree.

If you want to improve mileage:
-- Why are you using an inefficient motorcycle? Get something smaller and more aerodynamic.
-- Given you will keep the Savage (hopefully) the only way to improve mileage is to start flatus-ing around with carb internals, muffler back pressure, and carb airflow restrictions.

The later model Savages, as I understand it, are jetted pretty lean, so you won't be able to do much there, mileage-wise, unless you free up some flow before or after the cylinder head.
