The sounds of a cam tensioner...
11/17/12 at 14:23:55

Hey!

So I have 1 more week of riding before winter season and I would like to know if my bike is safe for riding for this last week. My plan was to open her up during the winter and check. Also installing Verslagens tensioner.

Info:
2007 Model.
34,500KM (21,437 mi) Presently
Purchased at 29,900KM (18,578 mi) from a dealer who certified the bike. (did not know at the time to ask about the tensioner and camchain)

Here is what I recorded of my bike:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm6jvYdu0mE&feature=plcp

Thanks for any input.

If the bike was at operating temperature, I could not hear anything unusual. My '06 sounds about the same.

Mine sounded similar I had bought it used with 23K miles on it. When I opened it up I measured it at 22mm out.  I think I avoided a mess.  I would guess I was rolling the dice every time I rode it, I am glad I didn't roll a 7.  I ordered the gasket and oil filter, opened it up and sent the adjuster to Verslagen1.  He is working his magic on it and I should have everything back together within a week or two tops.

I would love to just open it up right now. I wish I had torque wrenches. I will abstain from riding this bike this week. I will do the oil filter cover check for any tapping as well.

YOu dont need a torque wrench to pull the side cover,, IF you have problems in there, then, yea,, torque wrench time.

Yes dude...it looks like a loosen camchain.
very similar signs, on my savage, too, was the same noise switch. but I could not believe that a camchain may weaken after 10000км .you should to open the right cover and all you'll see.. .

probably need to visually inspect as that sounds like pretty much every savage i've heard.

the only issue i found with the video is a lack of bluing on your exhaust header  Tongue

Your bike sounds ok... I have an 07 with 4000 less miles than you have and my tensioner is 18mm & change out so I havent worried about it yet- but I do feel the cover on that side with my foot every once in awhile for anything out of the ordinary. I'd say ride it  Smiley but I'd open it up ASAP just for piece of mind.

Oh my.. getting mixed opinions.... I will air on the safe side and stop riding until I check it.

As for the fast idle, would that just be the idle screw being set to high? or is that one of those carburaetor settings?
