congrats on your recent purchase   I went 30 years   1982-2012 between owning(and riding) bikes   before buying a brand new 2011 on 8-21-12   there's nothing like it in life   the feeling is one that must be experienced to know(like almost everything)    and if you rode it home for 2 hours - you've already started to trust it   the s40 is so easy to handle/manuver   and to find this site was a big plus   read up on the posts within   many great minds at work   get an oil with enough ZDDP immediately

Have been reading about backfires already  Smiley
1st newbie question:
I would like to get rid of the park section of the ignition switch. I have an older ls650 service manual and it looks like it is just 2 wires - has anyone done this and is it as simple as I'm supposing?

You can try it, but it might disable the tail light all together.

Why?

Yes, it does... you'll have to connect it to the other tap...
(I just did this for Gerry's bike yesterday...)...

I love this bike - it is what I've always wanted.
A simple, light, get me anywhere without hassle machine.
Am going to do a service on Monday.
One was done not too long ago but I have bad experience with previous owners on other bikes  so am playing it super safe now this beauty's mine.
I have paperwork that says it went to a mechanic to sort out backfiring - nada - still does it, so that's something I will be looking at this week as well.
Will adjust the idle when I do.
Wanted to get rid of park because I think it's a stupid function and I don't trust myself - I'll be in a rush one day and leave it in park and end up with a no go battery.
I can't believe I own such a lovely new bike - I must be getting somewhere in this world Cheesy

Anyone know what this tail light is? I think I wanna get me one.

Read the post on messed up idle/fuel screw, it might be still on page 1 of rsd or it may have migrated to page 2 by the time you read this.
