help choosing jets
10/12/12 at 17:24:36

i asked these questions in a thread about painting the header. Not the best way to get answers so i'm making a dedicated thread.

So i bought a harley dyna exhaust and am about to get a K&N.  The only thing i don't know much about is the jets and what to do with them.

I live on the eastern shore of maryland.  Sea level and really humid.

as far as i know the bike is stock right now.  i haven't done anything to it except adjust the idle mix screw out 3.

would i need to rejet the carb?   thanks

K'N cone or slip-in?...  the cones breath way too much.... jetting will be more finicky...
... with a slip-in,... I'd go with a #150 main,... keep the pilot stock unless you need to turn the idle mix out more than 3 turns from full closed... with a cone, I'd start with a #152.5...
... and,.. based on Halvor's O2 tests... I'd try it with the stock spacer as well...  ... if you notice any jerkyness at mid throttle, go to a 2/3 spacer ...

Keep in mind.... bigger jets don't make you faster,.. the correct jets do... Wink...

Most any bike shop should have Mikuni main jets... ask for a "large round #150 Mikuni main jet"...
... pilots are trickier...
Wink...

PS... your main jet has a brass washer under it,.. don't lose it, you need it under the new one...

I have never had any luck at a local motorcycle shop.

I have used this online company......
http://www.jetsrus.com/

The Pilot jets you want are:N151.067
The Main jets are: MIKUNI LARGE ROUND MAIN JETS N100.604

I could not tell any difference between the original equipment or OEM equivalent.
