Got mine as a barn find and it wouldn't get-up-n-go. It ran a hell of a lot better on 1 click choke so I rode mine on 1 click for about 200 miles until it was rejetted. Afterwards, it ran quite well on no choke as it should other than my needing to dial in the other settings to get it running optimum on the low end and mid-range/cruising (still tinkering a little)...

While you have the carb apart, do a sterile rebuild,.. and then install a really good paper-element fuel filter.
-- Unless you have a zillion miles on it, these carbs are like new after a replacement of all the soft stuff, and a good filter will keep them that way
-- It'll run smoother.
-- It'll be more reliable.
-- It'll keep the carb from being one of the possible problem areas when troubleshooting other issues in the future.

no need for raptor petcock, all you need is some golf tees... plug the line on the carb and vacuum line on the petcock and run it on prime, i did this and have had no problems

I ran mine like this for a few years, but I reasoned that, if the OEM petcock was defective (as mine was), was there an additional failure mode that would allow the petcock to flow gas at all settings?  If so, that would not be good.  Perhaps one of the petcock gurus could chime in here.

So, I just gave up and slapped a Raptor on there and have never looked back....

I'd say it's ALOT easier to remove with the Raptor, much more clearance compaired to the stock one which is kinda shoe horned on there.
