Didn't have to post a single question, found everything I needed searching.
A friend of my wifes wanted to get a bike, she took her MSF and wanted a nice simple bike to learn on. So I helped her search for a Rebel, Savage, or some other beginner friendly bike. Found a fairly decent 04 locally. Started ok but ran terrible, extremely lean. front brake was like wood, no power. Traced that back to leaking fork seal putting oil on pads. So made the guy an offer and now she has a bike. I offered to get it sorted for her. So new fork seals, brake pads. cleaned carb, next size up low speed jet, 1 turn on the screw, 2 washers on the needle, fixed various other issues. I have to say that is a darned niced bike. No hesitation on acceleration, no surging while cruising in the midrange, no more popping on decel. Runs great. She should do well on it. Interesting to compare how the motor feels compared to my XR650L, quite different beasts really but it is a very capable powerplant. Would love to find a wreck and make a Norton Manx style cafe out of one.
Anyhow, great site, great information, and cetainly a fun bike. Thanks guys.
