windshield opinions
09/26/12 at 20:09:24

I am thinking of getting a windshield.  I want wind protection but I still want a slim design and style.  I am thinking of this.

http://shop.nationalcycle.com/perl/cycle/N2561?mv_session_id=eeIjs3cP&search_...

Any other opinions or pictures of what people have on their bikes would help.

I've got one like that.....love it.  I wouldn't want anything else.

I'm 5' 9", by the way, with a sitting height of the average 5' 11" man.....

No pic, but I have a fairly large Memphis Shades windshield.  When I first got the bike, I thought it was nothing but a big sail.  I've ridden with it off ONCE; neither I, nor my wife, have any interest in riding the bike without it again. It does a GREAT job deflecting the wind, bugs, etc. Wink

+1 on the Memphis Shades Slim windscreen. It has a very traditional look and lacks the "cool" factor, but the darn thing really works well for extended highway runs. I am 6'2" and have it adjusted so there is no helmet buffeting.

Your call and good hunting

I'll add my vote for the Memphis brand shields! I have the Memphis "slim" version and it's very stable, even at 80mph on the interstate!

I do plan on getting the Memphis "fats" version for winter riding as the extra inches on height and width will make a lot of difference in cold weather.

Why would you need a windshield AND a full-face helmet?

Mike,
If I get knocked off the thing, the windshield won't do anything to protect my face and jaw. Plus i am ugly as sin and the full face helmet keeps me from frightening little children.

Good hunting

That windshield looks pretty similar to the Spitfire

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Slipstreamer-S-06-Spitfire-Sport-Windshiel...

Spitfire is a bit cheaper though.
Personally.. It didn't do much for me :/ I felt a slight reduction of wind on my body, but with a helmet on the wind hits it just perfectly to make my head somewhat vibrate lol
The windshield its self also has a pretty significant vibrate to it, but it only took 10 minutes to install and can be taken off pretty much whenever.. if it's rainy or a chance of rain, I'll slap it back on.

Not the greatest pic..

Also.. in that pic, it's much higher than it is when I put it on now, the bottom almost rests on the headlight now.. another good thing about the windshield is how adjustable it is.

I just think those Memphis shades are too big . But I am worried the smaller one I am looking at will not block enough wind.

seeker,
Buy what you think looks right. If you don't like the looks, you won't like the windscreen.

The proportion of time spent on surface streets and the super slab will also will come into play on how well the screen does it's job. You might also be surprised how much just a 1/2 inch up or down or in lean influences the buffeting you get. One thing to remember, a poorly sized or adjusted windscreen can hurt more than it helps by inducing hard buffeting.

Start with what you like, cheap as you can, and go from there. Digger likes his smaller screen and he carries some weight around here.

Good hunting

+1 on the incorrect sizing of a windscreen.
most people want the wind off of them completely.
I want the wind in my face, but less wind on my chest.
I have a national flyscreen.  I'm comfortable up to 80
the buffeting that any windscreen creates hits me in the shoulders, not my helmet.
