Reading an ohm meter
09/18/12 at 07:34:43

Okay, Im confused, still, or again,, nope, its still,, Id hafta get UNconfused in order for it to be "again"..

wiring problem on the 4 wheeler. REading the "short" thats draining the battery.

On the 2 K scale its .756
         20 K = 2.71
        200 K = 19.2
         2 Meg = .157
       20 Meg = 1.24

Consistent, meter is a 1991 Radio Shack digital that has been handled as gently as a tool can be.

Do those readings make sense?
2K & 2 Meg are waaaay too close to the same,, seems like the same numbers otta be there with a decimal point moved,,

Looks like something in there is feeding power to the meter.  Did you check for DC and AC voltage?  And try reversing the leads as well.
Yeah.. I know it's a vehicle, and there shouldn't be any other source of power.

And.. how old is the battery in the meter?

The readings on the scales should be the same with the only diff being the decimal point moving to the right as you go from no K to 2K to 20k to 200k, etc.  156 on no k, would be .156 on 2K and .000 on 200k.

Main Battery no.  Backup batteries for accessories, maybe.
Also other eletrics with possible capacitors in them.
And stray alien signals being picked up on yer antenners.
I normally short the hot battery cable to ground, then check for voltage, then go look for shorts (or long pants if it's cold outside).

well,, its a yamaha 250 4 wheeler, wiring harness is pretty minimal.

I Found what was draining the battery, well,, kinda,,the wire that is causing the load goes up behind the Pull Cord Cover ( yea, it has a starter cord on it., I guess its for setting the valves, cuz there is no WAY an average person could pull that thing with the plug in it.
So, anyway, now I know why its so intermittent, I saw where the wire went & decided to tug on that cord, the load went away,,Hard to call it a short, its so low current it wont even lite a test lite,
