Don't hit the impact driver w/o the screw being supported from below or you'll break the tab off.

And I preferr to grab the heads with a vice grip.  They usually break loose easy that way.

Harbor Fright has a small impact driver with a long tip that's good with the slide screws.  Don't F those up, no way to get at them otherwise.

Dude, it's all about making sure there are no air leaks in the exhaust system and adjusting the pilot screw ( CCW ) to richen the low throttle range ( idle - 1/4 throttle ).

That WILL  stop the backfiring.

I do subscribe to these points of view, and would add the advice to first weld the holes around the stock exhaust.

This mod has been done many times before w/out adverse effect.
Unless it's too loud, I would leave it be.  Quick and easy fix is to put a screws in the holes.

Tape around 1/8th drill bit so bit wont go flying thru. Dont bash into the adjuster,,

First step, Gently, very gently, brass pointed tip,, close it off, count the turns, Write it down, Now, you can always get back to square one.,
Open it again, to stock location, & open another 1/2 turn. Go for a ride, adjust a litle, ride some more.

Others will be along to warn about Too Far.
