Hardtail struts for an 86 Savage
09/10/12 at 12:42:31

Hello all,  Wondering if there are any hardtail fans out there that would give me their opinion...My Savage is an 86 and I found for sale a pair of 10 inch hardtail struts for a HD Dyna. Unsprung on mine looks like 10 1/2 inch so I presume it's close....Will the mounting holes from an HD shock be close to a Suzuki ??? Thank you

You'll probably have to drill them out to fit.

length sounds ok

Really I dont see the point ... it still looks like you've fitted a rod where there was a spring and well ... it is one painful mod IMHO.
The sealed shocks etc dont fail and they keep the rest of the bike from jarring itself busted. You're adding complication, not removing it.

OK OK they do suck at actually absorbing much of anything ... and they do pogo ...

Anyway to each his own right.

Cool.
Srinath.

Thanks srinath
I know it's crazy but at 57 years old it's just another midlife crisis...Plus it's a cheap mod !!!  Always wanted a hardtail so this is it !

I'm 48 and all I ride are rigids. It just makes you alot more aware of the road.I like my fender right on the tire on my bobbers.Look at my thread called next suzi build. There are 3 of my bikes, all rigid.

10" is pretty long, that will be taller than ride-height. I'd aim for something closer to 9".

My shocks are 10.5" on center. My struts to fit a 150 tire and the fender to be close are about 9.75" on center and for a 140 i run 9" on center.Just checked them all. Grin

I used the same struts and I had to drill too, HD struts is not direct fit.
