New Savage owner, bought my 1995 LS650 for $500

Just bought my Savage.  Found it on Craigslist for $800 talked the guy down to $500.  All it needed was new tires, it had been stored for 10 years in his uncle's garage.  It has 23K miles and everything is in great condition.  Took it to my local shop and had it checked out. All I needed was the tires and new front break pads.  I will try to post a couple pictures.

The guy I bought it from did an oil change on it before he sold it to me.  I plan on doing one soon to put in my Rotella T6.

I found a problem in the first week it was blowing a fuse every so often I tracked it down to a frayed wire plugged in to the speedometer.  I had to cut the entire connector off and had to solder new ones on each end.  My first time soldering took me a bit to get the hang of it.   I was thinking about doing the cam also.  I bought the mechanics manual from Clymers and I am really looking forward to being able to do all the work myself.

You didnt Have to cut it. If youll get a jewelers screwdriver & reach up between the connector & the plastic, you can trip the retainers & pull each wire out.
I woulda cut a section out of that one wire & soldered in a new piece.

Might want to check out the gas lines as well. They have a tendancy to dry out and crack with age. Give the inside of the gas tank a good looking over or rust as well. Save a plugged up carb.

Thanks for the tips. I will go to auto parts store today and change out my gas line, as it does have some cracking around the connection to the petc0ck. I checked in the tank and yes there is some rust. I read a post about emptying your tank putting in BB's and I think it was oil, then shaking the hell out of it to loosen the rust.  I will try to find that post again.  I will pull my carb and clean it up after it gets colder and I am not riding it every day.

While your changeing out the gas lines add a fuel filter to catch any rust coming from the tank. Theres a couple of posts in the tech section covering this.
Be a REAL GOOD idea to change out the brake fluid on the front brake as well.
New air filter wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Added the fuel filter inline.  Waiting on the new muffler.  Purchased in the marketplace from Madalive8 who is parting out a 95 Savage, hopefully Madalive8 will ship soon.  Then I will switch out the air filter for a K&N when I do the muffler.  I will check to see if it needs re-jetting on the carb at that time.  I think someone already did the spacer mod because my brass plug is filled with a silicone gell.
