eBay gasket set
09/06/12 at 10:00:51

I purchased a gasket set on eBay.

◇ 86-98 SUZUKI LS650 ENGINE GASKET SET NEW CI-3049M

Item number:160821834249

Price:$33.50

Today during an engine rebuild of a 1996 Savage I discovered that the cylinder head gasket did not fit as it was missing two stud holes.

I have an order into RonAyers.com to get an OEM one.

Yep! heck back in the dark ages we just made our own gaskets.....of course back then it didn't really matter.....ALL bikes leaked oil anyways.....at least after you put oil in them!!!!

Seems like puttin holes in would be Sooo much easier than takin them out..

Is it a copper clad, paper gasket?

I know Id rather spend a few bucks than risk having to go back in,,

How much $$$ at Ayers?

It's a three part metal gasket, riveted together. It goes between the top of the cylinder and bottom of the cylinder head. Holds combustion pressure. It's not a paper gasket. Clymers says to replace it with a new one.

I tried drilling in the missing holes. Wrecked it. Time for an OEM gasket (about $35 delivered).

My point is don't buy this gasket kit if you expect the cylinder head gasket to fit.

I purchased this "Suzuki LS650P 86-91,95-04 Complete Gasket Set *3049* "set of gaskets. so far i tried to install  gasket cover of the adjustment valve. the impression is not very good. but all the same the most important washer-head of the cylinder.
what can you say guys?
thanks!

I am guessing tghe drill bit caught the thin sheets of copper and grabbed and tore things up.  When drilling thin stuff - sandwich it between some sturdier material and drilll through everything.  Using some scraps of plexiglass or Lexan works.....and because it is clear you can see where you are drilling.
