Hard to start
09/06/12 at 06:00:02

Well... I guess it had to happen sometime.. my otherwise completely trust-worthy Savage is now hard to start. Never had this issue ( well in warm weather). Basically had to flood the thing and just work through it. Then.. she would not stay running.. rpms... just trailed off uless you tended the throttle. I cranked in the idle screw and that worked.. and then backed her off at the first light. Bike ran fine on her normal jaunt to work ( 10 miles/stop and go traffic).

New gas (ethnol free)
Full tank
Rapture petcock in "ON"
battery spun up fine.. good and strong
choke was on full
Outside temp 79 heat index 86 humidity 97%

Any suggestions appreciated.

PS: I have  Slick Wheelie on the way for good measure (trips to the shop).

IDK about yours, but if I wanna make sure mine wont start, all I hafta do is twist the gas a hair & it wont go.

At that temp, Id try no gas, no choke.
No go?
no gas, 1/2 choke.
No go?
No gas, full choke.

How long had it sat, unstarted?
If several days, did ya give the bowl time to fill before ya hit the starter?

Double check the vacuum tap... if you only have a rubber nipple on it,.. it might have rotted and be leaking air...
Just a possible.. Huh...

JOG - rode it home from work last night
Verslagen: All stock other than listed -namely new petcock
Sbot: that was my first thought.. the rubber nipple is BRAND new... however, I worried about it still sucking air, so last night I put a zip-tie on it .. just to snug it up even more. Wonder if I introduced a "kink".  Bike seems to run fine.

I can't think of a single hose on the Savage that doesn't need a clamp. I think the carb vent hoses have the spring loaded clips on the carb end. Always put a clamp on when in doubt...for vibration if no other reason.
