Are the headlights on these bikes (mine is a 2008) designed to take an upgraded/brighter bulb, or is it a sealed unit where once it blows or you want a new one, you have to get the entire light itself? Suggestions? Thanks.

I have the cheapest HID I could find. HID for low beam, halogen for high.
the operated shield was new at the time, but don't know if they are any trouble now. only trouble I've had is with the bulb.
the little high beam shield broke, so I had high beam all the time. had a welder at work fix it for me. but could've bought a new bulb.

Only thing I wish I had is an off switch for the lights, because it cuts out when starting cause of the drop in voltage.

I have faced this problem.... light on Savage is really very weak, in the night with him almost nothing visible and even if the rain, you're blind as a mole. I replaced the lamp OSRAM. they Shine much brighter than the catabatic lamps of the same power. so there is no danger that deformed стело head lights or reflectors from the heat.and fairly cheap, about $ 7 for a pair

It is the best light I ever have had. It is a big headlight with single mount. I guess the new reflector and the size is why it works so well.

Put an electric vest on that, and it'll really load it up. That's why V's suggestion of an HID system makes a lot of sense. I'm probably going to go that route on the RYCA. More light, less drain on the mediocre alternator.

It appears there are a coupe of votes for HID due to less wattage but more light. Sorry for my ignorance, but is HID just a bulb or a total headlight replacement? Any links to parts? I tried to search and it looks like there are references to systems with a ballast, etc. that required a little wiring work?

Forget the electricity. It is the original headlight thats the problem. This is for little girls. Buy a new and bigger with new reflector and the problem is solved. When I drive together with others they ask me why it shines so bright. It is only the headlight with its new reflector, not a powerful lightbulb or anything else.
