Drag bars
09/04/12 at 17:20:10

I want to put some wider drag bars on the bike. I know it needs to be 1", but will dimpled bars work on the savage. I know the stock bars are not dimpled, but is it possible to use dimpled bars or will the controls not fit on them correctly ?

Thanks for responding Ohio.  One more thing, I know the stock bars are knurled and this is probably recommended, but is it definitely necessary ?

I've recently tried out a few new bars...

First got 24-1/2" wide drag bars with a 5" pullback,

controls hit the tank.

After a lot of measuring and making some cardboard templates, it seems that with the stock risers your options are...

32" minimum length straight (broomstick) style handlebar

36" minimum length with a 4.5-5" pullback

I settled on a bar with a slight rise, and I'm actually happier with the look and feel than the no-rise drag bars.

The bars I have now are "dimpled" and they work OK, but I would suggest getting non-dimpled if you can.

Thanks Jacob. I was looking at some non-dimpled 30" bars with a 5" pullback that I was going to mount on 3" or 4" straight risers.

Cool, thank you fellas. I think I found a nice pair of pre '82 Harley drag bars that aren't dimpled, but are knurled that will work.
