Newbie needs help!
08/26/12 at 05:24:29

Hi guys, I'm Dan and I was just given a 97 Savage from my coworker. He was the original owner and it only has 1700 miles!! This will be the first bike for my girlfriend(I've been riding for 16 years) However, he didn't take very good care of it so the chrome is bad, a couple dings and dents, and it needs a few things. Front caliper/battery/carb cleaning/tires and tubes. And that brings me to my question.

I have NEVER dealt with tubed tires. What size tubes do I need? I can't seem to find the sizes anywhere. I have a real tire changer/digital balancer at my disposal so that's the easy part.  My GF just went through her MSF class so I would like to get her on the road before the end of the season, and she is very excited to do so. And speaking of tires/rims,  and recommendations on size upgrades that might be cost effective? I'll keep searching through other threads in the mean time. Thanks for any help!

Why not buy/order the tubes w/ the tire, and maybe a spoke strip too.

And why not use the stock sizes, they sure work good on mine.

Alright, I feel a little silly about the tube size.  I had gotten the tire size from off the bike last night, but didn't realize the tube was listed with the size of the tire.  Roll Eyes  Whoops!  With that settled I'll be buying new tires/tubes/rim tape and do it all at once.

As far as having never ridden a spoked bike...well, that's easy....

In order of having owned...

92 EX500
94 CBR600 F2
95 ZX-6R
2002 RC-51
2005 ZX10-R
2010 S1000RR
and currently in stable

2008 Sprint ST for the street
2004 GSXR-750 for the track

Don't think I've ever seen a sportbike with spoked rims!

Thanks for the help, I and my now motorcycle riding girlfriend appreciate it!
