Yes to buy new, thats what I thought.
I came here to check out the bike, was a little wary of buying one but the guys here put my mind at ease. So back to the showroom I go. I tell em I am really interested and just have to go home to get insurance and stuff ready. The bike here inCanada, Nova Scotia would have cost me with taxes $7200, with finance the cost would have been $8600 over 5 years or so.
On the way home parked on a store front with a for sale sign was this 2003 savage with 4200 km. It had all Willy and whats his name leather side and rear bags, rear rack, side rails,  suzuki windshield, and a tach fitted. Whats the cost of that stuff to buy ? $600 I will bet. Has no blueing at all on pipes, dont back fire. A phut on turn off thats all,Good tires, and really perfect condition.
This cost me with taxes $3000 to ride on the road. Am I happy, you bet, and I know its not new but I sure changed my mind.
Just saying in a long winded way to check out used bikes.  Grin

I should add, a warranty is one year and in canada that means 5 months unless your putting snow shoes on her.

I always buy new,When you buy used your buying someone else's troubles,And you can see on here they troubles people have.

When mine get a new owner, That owner will be buying a bike thats been looked after & had the bugs worked out..I disagree with the "Always buy new" & I am in real good company. I know a millionaire who NEVER buys a new vehicle. Ill never buy another new anything with wheels.

I'm with you Justin! Besides I've heard a good deal of horror stories about dealers messing with folks who tried to bring their bikes back in for warranty work.
Kalm, the only exception IMHO would be if you really, really don't want to have to work on the bike or do any of your own maintainence. (but then again, think of all the fun you'll miss spinning wrenches) :'(

It's an interesting comparison. What's the difference between $5600 Canadian and the new price? How much warranty is left on the 2011?. How much riding time do you have left before your winter sets in? How much mechanical experience have you had? Some of those who have posted on this thread are experienced mechanics with plenty of tools. Are you really interested in DIY maintenance, or do you just want to ride? Thionk these things over before deciding. You might be able to screw him down a little on the 2011.

Here you are, a 2011 left over. Just hop on the bus and drive her home.
I have sat on this machine and love the colour. Its steadily being lowered in price. Amherst NS

Holy smoke!  Shocked Got to admit, that is cheap money for a brand new left over. Nice paint too. Too bad it doesn't have the backrest. It would be hard to turn that down if I were in the market for a newer Savage.

Hop on the bus Gus, don't need to discuss much. Just pick up the key Lee and set yourself free.

I was able to buy a new 2011 s40 for only $4500. I bought new because I am not much of a mechanic and I liked the idea of a warranty. Plus I am new to cycleing and didnt know enough about motorcycles to pick out a good used one. After saying all of that if I had a chance to go back and find a good used one I proboly would have still bought a new one. Suzuki gave me 100% financing with 2 lemits and a vest and at 0% interest so I couldnt pass that up. By the way I havent had much problems with backfiring either. I am tall (6'2") I eventually I will invest in some forward controls but for the most part i have bee really happy with the bike. Its not the best bike for riding 2 up but by yourselfe its great. I have been averaging between 50 and 55 mpg's so its very affordable to ride. Good luck

Ya im going to go ahead and purchase a new vehicle, problem is its priced at around 6200 + taxes which comes up to like ... 7200/7300 ..... i know a little pricey here .. so waiting for the price to be lowered and the stock is very low for the new 2012 here in canada.. worst case scenario i get the 2013 model at the same price next year Smiley
