And they make quality items too.  I won't argue the importance of UV protection, especially with depletion of the ozone.  Heck, even without that, you can see that historically our forefathers (at least for those of us with lighter skin) for the better part of the past several centuries have tended to wear long pants, long sleeves and hats when spending significant amounts of time outside.  This helps to protect the skin from lots of irritants from insects to UV.  With our increasingly more indoor lifestyles, we seem to have forgotten some of the lessons they'd already learned.  However, those S&M masks/hoods are just plain freaky and I doubt I'd enjoy myself much on a beach populated with hood-wearing folk.  I once visited a beach in Karachi, Pakistan and all the women were in the surf wearing the full black from head to toe.  I was never sure if they were swimming, bathing, doing their laundry or all three.
