Rear solid struts question

I am wondering...If I wanted to kill my back and get rid of the super comfy rear shocks and replace them with a steel bar as so many seem to do, can it be bolted metal to metal or should I get the shock bushings in there?

With how weak people have said the Savage frame is, I decided not to risk solid struts and incorporated bushings into mine. I'm curious how other people feel about this as well.
