These are photos of removing and installing the freeze plug. I drilled the hole in the freeze plug for a louder sound. The hole is optional. I hope this explains it.

Oh ok i got ya. Thats a good idea. Do u just push it down as far as it will go? What stops it? Do you have bolts to hold it in place?

I tap it down until it is tight. A couple inches or less after it catches. No bolts. Pressure fit. You could move it further in the pipe to tune it but I never did. I will go measure how far mine is.

My plug sits 6.5 inches from the edge of the inlet.

It looks like an automotive freeze plug for an engine. Guessing from the looks it's maybe an inch and 1/2

It's the one that came with it. The HD forums say it is an automotive freeze plug/expansion plug. It should be 1.5"/38mm is 1.25".

They cost around $1. Buy one and try it.

HEY GREG,
Just curious, I'm sure the hole in the middle of the plug gave you a louder sound, but did you notice a serious change in the performance of the bike after you drilled it out?

Seems to me if that plug is so cheap and easy to re-install it would be easy to play around with a variety of holes and sizes etc. Might make the Harley pipes somewhat tune-able, which would be quite something!

If that's a 1.5" plug, I'm guessing it's a 1" pipe you're using? or 1.25"?

It was louder and deeper. If there was a performance gain or loss, I didn't notice. I just popped it out again to measure. The plug is 1.25" in diameter and my piece of pipe is 1" in diameter. They are tune-able for noise. Tune-able for performance? YMMV. I drilled different size holes, starting small, until I got a sound I liked. I would guess that the plugs aren't supposed to be removed/re-installed as many times as I have done it, but it hasn't shifted on me yet.

It is my understanding that is something belongs in tech, the mods will move it from rsd. I may be wrong though.
