Now, what would you do with a 73 year old man who talks about taking baths in dirty bath water, who talks about running his engine with no oil in it trying to pump out every drop of old dirty oil, but who also freely admits he's never had to change the oil in his Savage because his magical red oil never gets dirty (after 7 years no less).

Would you buy advice from this man?

I'm not so sure about trying to drain the last drop out of the cam lobes tub. Next time you start the bike the lobes run totally dry until the oil pressure is up. I don't think this is such a good idea.

To spend less than $5 for a filter and add an additional 5 minutes to the job in order to change the filter along with the oil seems to me to be time and money well spent.

The filter swap is where the oil gets on things, its a few buck,, its more than 5 minutes counting cleanup & disposal, its not gonna hurt anything to run it again, its effectively NEW & holds nowhere near enough oil to negatively impact the quality of the new oil, save the $$, avoid the hassle, rerun it.,

Bill loves it or he wouldn't be doing it all the time.

If he didn't love it he would just let the oil stuff roll right on past rather than rising to the bait and hitting on it like a hungry large mouth bass slapping a surface bait each and every time it flutters on by him.

I used to be real anal about all this stuff,, its not that big of a deal. The Rule of 80/20 is everywhere,, well,, not in neurosurgery,, but in most things, & being "perfect" in getting every drop of old oil out to put new in,, How long is it all new? & what harm is there if theres 2 tablespoons of "Old" oil in with more than 2 quarts? Is there gonna be a place in the oil that eats the engines guts? Is it not gonna lubricate? Let logic guide you, not fear, not superstition & not tradition,, THINK about it,, Its really not that scary,,
