help me with my Honda

ok gurus please provide a little guidance on my Honda 750 problem - no fuel

I was out running errands today and the bike decided to die - i had stopped 2-3 times and she cranked right up and ran fine have not been having any problems - at the last stop she fired up and ran about 50ft and bogged/died - she will crank once about every 15-20 minutes with the choke on but dies out after about 30 seconds - cant twist the throttle or she dies immediately - i did change the fuel filter it was fuel of gunk 9rust?) the tank is rusty inside

I am figuring it must be the electric fuel pump has died or the carbs have gunked up - not likely since it was running fine.

15,500 miles - new plugs and air filter at 13,500

any ideas guys?

(1)How hot was it?  vapor lock?
(2)When you twist the throttle it dies..flooding?
(3)Why do you use the choke when starting, shouldn't need it in the Summer.
(4) With all the rust from tank, perhaps carb needs cleaning.

You should be able to pull the gas line from the tank to the carb and crank the bike, seeing if fuel is pumped into the waiting bucket.
Have fun.

I am going to suggest cleaning the carbs, you said there was rust particles from the tank.  My guess is that the carbs are not filling up fast enough causing it to die, but when you let it sit for a while, it lets gas leak back into the carbs until you start it and ride it and doesnt fill up enough.  So I would clean the tank, and clean the carbs.

I just tried to cranj it with choke as part of troubleshooting - no fire at all with choke off just spins - 2 carbs - figuyred i would have to take the carbs off and check the bowls - got it home ($80 tow bill) and she was setting in the garage and i smeeled gas - it was leaking from one of the fuel pump hoses i must have twusted on too much getting the fuel filter off/on - it is 03 shadow spirit vt750dc - i got the tank off and plugged the petcock hose which stopped all leaks - tomorrow i will be pulling the remaining hoses off the fuel pump - and replace them - then i will have to figure out how to trouble shoot the pump....then to the carbs etc. etc....I wish i rolling in $$$ and this would be left with a professional to figure out fix.......

I got an 03 spirit also. Did you post your problem over at the ShadowRiders.net forum? they might give you a answer.

When you do get it to run with the choke out for 30 seconds (like you posted) are you sure BOTH cylinders are firing? Pull the plugs and see if one is wet and one is burnt. This will tell you which carb is gummed.

Also, if you can get it to run on both cylinders, even a little, with choke or not, you may want to just pull the fuel line and squirt a syringe of SeaFoam into the line, reattach and run the SeaFoam through to clean the carbs.

Carb work on a Spirit kinda sucks...I feel your pain.

The good news is, if it was running fine before this happened, it can't be much to the problem.
Keep us posted.
