Rectifier heat and saddlebag placement?

Hi all! My first post as a new member. I recently bought an '06 S40 and put saddlebags on it yesterday. My question concerns the fact that mounting the bags under the seat meant covering the rectifier with the saddlebag strap. Can this cause overheating of the rectifier? and should I cut some holes in the strap or relocate the rectifier. I don't want to burn it up!

Any input would be appreciated. Happy riding!

Been lots of people who have relocated in various positions. Mine is mounted to right side of battery case. Basically only requires lengthening the rectifier connector wires which can be done by soldering, quick connectors, posilocks, etc. Regardless of the saddlebags I relocated mine anyway to eliminate any over heating problems from any source. Having it out in an air flow has to be better for it overall.

It really doesn't get much air there anyway.
And the fender does act as a heat sink to augment the cooling fins provided.

So I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Only time I've heard the rectumfryer is overheating is when the battery is being overcharged. I don't know which causes what, a bad battery or a bad rectumfryer.

I stuffed mine in the air box. It jams to the rear just like it was made for it. And no wires needed lengthened.

Thanks for the input. I just wasn't sure how hot it got to start with. It does have cooling fins on it.

I think I'll start with some cutouts in the strap first and see how things go. Better safe than Sorry.

This is a great site. I'm sure glad I ran across you guys here. Hope to be able to be of some use to someone in the future.

If you cut the bag strap, someone suggested cutting round corners, to help prevent tearing. IDK, just a thought.
