drums1 Serious Thumper Offline '87 Savage Bashed--Down for the count Posts: 664 Racine, Wisconsin Gender:	No brakelight using hand brake 07/09/12 at 19:24:13 I noticed yesterday I have no brakelight when using the front handbrake by itself. The brakelight works fine when using the rear footbrake. Any guesses on possible cause, before I tear into the switch itself? Or is that where I should be headed anyways?

Go ahead and crack open the switch. I guarantee you that's the problem. I have had the same problem many times and it is always that cheap, stinking switch. Sometimes you can open the switch and clean the contacts and not mutilate it too badly, sometimes not. See link for permanent solution.

You are correct, the switch is the weak link. I got tired of cleaning it.

I did the same solution you did 6 years ago and it worked. Caveate is there are 2 different threads on the pressure switch bolt area. I ordered the wrong one and ended up buying another (My 1987 Savage uses the fine threaded version, but I am not sure of the later models, YMMV.)

No more failed contacts on that micro switch then. That is gonna be my next preventative maintenance upgrade. R.F.
