Don't do anything that increases the disengagement effort beyond stock, unless you somehow reinforce that clutch 'throwout paddle' which is a known weakness.
I'd just renew the plates, check that the spring lengths are within spec and make sure (duh) not to run the energy saving oil.
I also heard (but never verified) that it is good to soak the new plates in clean oil overnight before you install them, and that's supposed to prevent them from glazing?
