Headlight with am LED Halo ring?
07/05/12 at 04:16:30
Every time I see cars with these as daytime running lights it really makes them noticable/visable, was wondering if anyone has used one on a bike or has been thinking about it. The only issue that I can surmise is that the LED ring takes up some real estate in the headlight housing which may reduce the actual headlight's angle of light during night time driving, but for myself being mainly a daytime rider I think the benefit outweighs the negative.
Something like this-

J&P Cycle and some others sell the complete light with the LED ring already mounted but that's the bucket and all and it's pricey
! About $180 USD :'( .

Well I've bought that very headlight with the integrated LED's for $22. Guess I'll play around with it and see if the heat is an issue, if it is I'll cross that bridge and figure something out

If heat is ever going to be an issue this summer should show it out! I'm looking at my thermometer right now @ 1:56pm EDT and it shows 110.8*F. I know that number is somewhat skewed by the sensor being under a lean-to roof on the barn but it is shaded and on the north side of the barn so it can't be too far off!

Found it on Ebay, the seller usually has them listed for $34.95 + shipping. I noticed he had one listed for $12.95 + shipping brand new and snatched it up! I wonder if he meant to post that one as a bid on item instead of buy it now

thanks for the link. When you get it installed show some pics. Is it just a factory swap? Does it go into the bucket of the headlight or just replace the whole thing?

For starters...
The reason why these make cars more "visible" has nothing to do with the halos, it has to do with them being on. It's the light you're noticing. This is why so many cars have daytime running lights and why they're mandatory in many countries. It's also why it's mandatory that motorcycles always have their headlight on - and there's the reason why this will be pointless - your headlight is already on.
They also look really out of place on anything but BMW cars.

Hey Cavi Mike most of the cars I've seen with Halo headlights only have the actual Halo lights on as the daytime running lights not the halo and the headlight together. Also FYI BMW's come with Programmable Daytime Running Lights which you can have the Halo alone or both the Halo and headlight at the same time. So no your headlight is not nessesarily already on.
Oh and I happen to like them on other cars besides BMW's, I don't particularly even like BMW's myself. And look forward to seeing what my S40 looks like with it.

That's true for a car, but what Mike was saying is that on any modern motorcycle, the headlights are wired to always be on. There's a high or low beam switch, but not on or off.
If the main beam of the headlight is already on, will the LED Halo even be visible?

Won't know till I try it, and for $20 I'm willing to try it especially if it does increase visibility at all
I recieved the headlight on Saturday and lit up the halo, it's nice and bight. Once I have time to install it I'll post up pics with and without the Halo.
