Spam Attacks

I created a map that displays *all* of the spam attacks directed at SuzukiSavage.com

These attacks have been successfully blocked!  Grin

The map represents attacks starting at midnight of the current day representing a 24 hour period.

If you are interested click 'Live Map' between 'Donate' and 'Games' then select 'Blocked Spam Attacks' from the drop down at the top right  corner of the map.

What exactly constitutes a "spam attack" in this case?  I've pointed to a few commercial products available on the web, but there was absolutely no profit motive.

Probably by attempted registrations/logins from known spammer IPs, as reported elsewhere. Stopforumspam.com for example. User 'enzyclery' can be tracked down at http://stopforumspam.com/ipcheck/184.105.162.189 and appears to hail from johnh's neighborhood.  He should go over there and kick some ass.  Cheesy

1. Registrations from know spammer ip's and bot networks.
2. Harvester bots trying gain data or post data
3. Various Honey Pots tracking bad behavior.
4. Secret Squirrel - I am not telling.

One is coming from my city, I hope it's not my computer. I wouldn't doubt it though, I don't run any anti-virus, I just re-install windows every few months.

Games I've purchased excepted, it's why I use Linux for all my dealings on the 'net. It's security is much better than Microsoft Windows. One still needs to be vigilant with fisching schemes, devious HTML use secure passwords, and sound security practices, don't get me wrong. Still, it beats M$ by a long shot.

For this same reason is why I got my daughter an iMac. It is basically a modified Unix under the hood with an Apple GUI, IMO.  Smiley

Every time I see this thread title I see a movie poster in my mind, of a hunk of greasy, grody, spam, attacking innocent high school kids. Ohhh, the horror..

When I was trying to post a very LONG letter that I got from the Mass. Motorcycle Association I was warned repeatedly that I would be blocked for spamming.  It took me many tries to narrow it down to one paragraph that talked about the cost of motor vehicle insurance in relation to helmet laws. It wasn't spam but I still got blocked twice.

They have their spam filter set too tight. I had the same problem with one Linux blogger site. Some of these bot screening software applications leave a lot to be desired, filtering out legitimate posters as well as spammers.  Huh
