Just lowered front fork, is clicking sound normal?
06/29/12 at 07:55:50
I just lowered my 03 Savage using the spacers from Ryca.
I just put it all together and notice that there is a "clicking" sound coming from the top of the fork when it travels. Is this normal? I can't remember if it made these noises before it was lowered.

don't think so, check that you have the fork bottomed out in the tree. and everything is tight.

i am pretty sure everything is tight and put back together correctly. everything was pretty straight forward.
i hear the clicking noise right at the top of the fork.

I would guess that the preload is a little short.

What do you mean by this? Is this something i can fix? Or just a result of lowering the forks?

Do you have to force the caps on?
Or do they go on easy?

They were definitely tough to screw back on because of the spring trying to shoot them off...but I was able to do it by myself.

Good, you have preload then.
Might be your preload spacers aren't sitting flat and rocking.

ok...well crap, looks like i will be taking the forks apart again. I thought i installed everything properly, didnt think i could mess this up!
i have no ridden the bike yet because I haven't finished some other stuff up yet.
Is there a chance that these just need to "break in" or something to get rid of the sound haha

I lowered my forks and there definitely was no clicking. Did you shorten the spacers or leave them stock length. Just a far out guess, if you shortened them might you have gone a few mm too short and they are able to move slightly?

I didn't shorten the stock spacers (the ones at the top of the fork).......All I did was install the Ryca lowering spacers.
Crap...looks like i have to tear this thing apart again.

this could totally be my problem actually. i followed the ryca instructions to compress the fork when filling up the fork with oil. But depending on the angle that the fork was at when filling it up, this could have effected how much oil was inserted. I will try this.
I really dont think it is a problem caused by putting everything back together improperly.
i did spill some of the 32oz bottle i bought and i probably dont have enough to top off the forks. can i get by with just filling in the remaining amount with ATF?
