13" or 16" saddle?
06/29/12 at 02:59:24

It's about time I start fitting up a saddle but I'm not quite sure if I should go with a 13" or a 16" saddle. A 16" almost seems like it would hang too far off the back but I think a 13" tucked up against the tank will also tuck me right against it and the controls. I want to keep the saddle right against the tank to hide as much of the mounting tab as possible. What do you guys recommend?

I'm not really sure what you could tell by the pictures since they're not on bikes but I really like the Rich Philips snub-nose 13" but I'm just afraid it's gonna be too short. If I couldn't get that, I'd prolly get the La Rosa Bad Ass.

La Rosa Bad Ass(I'd get the distressed version, there isn't an image of it)

Worked for me. What size saddle do you have on your bike?

It worked that time
Ive got the stock seat, but the 16" looks more comfy to my eye,, Your size should be considered, mine,, not so important.

I'm sure the La Rosa would be more comfortable but that's because of its style, not its size. I could easily get the Rich Phillips saddle that looks like the La Rosa but my concern is whether a 16" saddle will be too big or a 13" too small. I think the only way you would know that is if you actually had something other than the stock saddle on your bike.

Look up the specs at J&P cycle's vintage pages for a K model factory solo. Had one fit to my bike and it fit it like it was made for it. Then just go by those measurements and choose a saddle that size that suits the look you want.

My tank selection has dictated I run a 13" saddle. Quite honestly, I'm very glad this happened because I've been putting this off for far too long - but - and there's always a but....

I found an alligator version of the seat I wanted.

I want to bounce this off of you guys. Distressed OR Alligator? Throw all your opinions at me, hate, love, whatever. I'm pretty sure I've already decided anyways but your feedback should plant my feet firmer and should make me feel better about this $200 purchase I'm about to make.

They're both decent looking seats, so if the price differential isn't too bad get whichever one you find more appealing. I'll say from experience that gator hide can make for a sore butt.

Just my opinion so take it for what it's worth...

I've always loved the look of a plain distressed leather seat. It's kinda like an old beat up leather jacket. There's stories that come from each flaw and scrape on it. You can have a beautiful custom paint job and as much chrome as you want but it's the seat that tells you if the bike is ornamental or appreciated.

To me, the Alligator look ornamental.

Just my $0.02

Honestly, the whole bike is an ornament to me. When I build/make something, it has to be something that I love to look at. Something that I can't resist turning around and looking back at as I walk away from it. If it doesn't give me butterflies when I look at it, I've messed something up.

Distressed....hands down.......no doubt in my mind.  It just looks "vintage"....well worn and says "I've been there and back Bro".It makes a  subtle but  definate statement.
