First oil change (on this bike)

Ok, so I'm hoping to get around to changing the oil in my 02' savage this weekend.  I bought my bike used about two months ago and my oil level has been ok, but I think it's time to change it  (just to be safe).  The previous owner said he put 20W50 synthetic in it.  I live in Indiana and I wanted to make sure that I'm using the correct weight (I don't really care if it's synthetic or not).  Without starting any arguments... what do you reccommend?  Thanks for any input! Box end wrench on plug, pointing the long end toward front tire, lay on right side of bike, rear brake side, & drive down on the wrench,
Cover the pipe with foil or oil will get on it & itll smoke a while,, I dont bother,,some do,,

MOst any shop is gonna have it, or be able to get it for ya. I pay around $4.00 locally.

I often find my local dealer is better than buying off the web - no shipping fees.  My last oil filter was about $7 CDN.
