I don't recall who it was... I think it was Sluggo but possibly Gitarzan who was hit in the shoulder by a bird (of a smaller variety, like a sparrow).  If I remember right, he was doing like 40 or 45 MPH and said it knocked him hard enough to pull his hand free of the bar and left a softball sized bruise.

I was doing... 45-50mph on my BMW when I collided with a magpie.

I can only thank my windshield was the tall, cruiser kind AND that it was a full 6mm thick (1/4 in).

All I remember was "oh, sh...t" and ducking my head... and THWACK!

I feared I was going to careen, but no, good heavy locomotive of a bike...
...good girl... (patpat...)  Cool

Whew !  Shocked

I was riding thru Arkansas a few years ago on a cross country.  While on heavily wooded back road, suddenly a hoard of black birds began flying out of the bushes alongside of the road.   I was on a big Yamaha Venture and just hunkered down behind the fairing and windshield listening to the thump thump thump... thump...  thump thump...   This continued for several hundred yards and I remember looking in my rear view to see a wake of dead and wounded birds fluttering on the road behind me.
