Oil leak from pulley axel (Read 87 times)

It might be from the gasket around the axel? I havent pulled off the pulley yet. I do allso have a strange sound when i use the motor for breaking. Any ideas if it is critical? Thanks for a great forum.

I'd hate to tackle that seal... if it ain't too bad,.. I'd just wipe it off routinely... .. or try to get a little silicone sealant in there?... (Then again,.. I just hate replacing seals period)... ...

And I agree with you about replacing seals. A leak, a drip and a seep are all different, and only one requires replacing--and only then because it's dangerous.

Hopefully it will replace from the outside, Id expect it to, Be a good place for a small slide hammer with a sheet metal screw on it.

Thanks, it might be wice to take off pulley anyway to check for wear. With the nut on, theres no play at all. But I read that it must be taken off before testing?

Great to hear it can be replaced from outside. But it can be the drainage hull Verslagen told about. It seems like a happening, not a continuos leak. It does not bother me at all, except for oil spots on the belt. This also indicates a sudden leak, maybee from drainage. Can it be from using starter when driving? The bike have stopped on idle down steep hills a couple of times.

I will allso check the breather tube, maybe it is squeezed and can not breath and make high preassure wich presses oil throug the seals?

Check the drain on the line hanging down. Its supposed to be plugged. If the line is full & has a hole in ot, then its gonna drip out above the starter & run down to where youre seeing it, For the seal at the drive pulley to go away? Well,, Thats really rare, usually seals die when there is shaft wobble ( & that aint happnin), or after man, many years & much more wear than these bikes typically see.
Anyway, drain that line, catch it, its nasty,
Its plugged to keep oil from being spit out on the rear tire.

The speedometer cable has not been tightend and oil have leaked and fount its way down under the starter and traveled on its way under the pully...
