Running Lights
05/28/12 at 10:42:26

Greetings...I hope someone here can help. I have an 01 Savage that worked perfectly up until this year. The latest problem is that all of my running lights have quit working. I lost the front right and both rears first, followed by the front left and the running light part of the brake light.  Strangely, all turn signals and the brake light itself still work.

Any ideas?

Well,... if the lights are stock,.. there aren't any rear running lights...

Since you seem to have lost the others, one at a time... have you checked the bulbs?...

What lights up, when you set the key to the accessory, or park position?...

Nothing lights up except the headlight. The turn signals work and the brake light works. The brake light was on as a running light prior to this, as long with the front turn signals. I was pretty certain the rear turns worked as running lights as well, but perhaps not.

Definitely check your bulbs, because that's easy!  Haven't had to change many bulbs on my bike, but you know how when one burns out in your house, you always have a couple more go out within the next day or so?  (always seems to happen to me)

I thought it was bulbs, but since the front right is a single filament, and the turn signal works and until a month ago the running light worked, I was puzzled. The same with the now defunct front left. The turn signal works on the same filament that is not lighting up as a running light.\

I could not find a non-suzuki store equivalent for the stock bulbs, but I'll use the numbers above and go from there.

Hmmm,.,, Now ya got me curious,, you should pull a bulb & look at it before getting another,.,My memory just aint what it was,, I was thinking that was a 2 filament, but now youve got me thinking Im wrong,, & I probably am,, but still, looking at bulbs is cheap & easy.,.
& those are qualities Ive included in my autobiography,

The front bulbs are single filaments, that I know for certain. I don't know about the rear brake, I will check that tomorrow. At this point, I'd be happy if I can get the rear to light up, so I don't get someone's front end up my rear end, though I do not do a lot of night riding.

Ok, so since the bulbs are easy to check, once he checks those, what if he finds they are all good?  Must be a short in the harness somewhere?  Maybe a ground came loose?  Wiring... my worst nightmare... still yet makes me curious...

There is what appears to be a stock, and I say that because it is only marked 12V,21/5W, with out a 1156 number, in the front right turn signal. I have not changed the bulb since purchasing the bike, and up until 1 month ago, it was a running light. Perhaps it was changed when I had an oil change done, but I didn't get charged for a new bulb. I will check the front left tonight when I get home.

One nightmare at a time, hon,, Lets dont get all tangled up in what ifs,, plenty of time to consider that, but based on the way it all came about, Im sayin bulbs,
