Been reported to Mysterious, but not seems to be the case for many of the newer people.

Older posters still seem to be working, newer guys not so much.

I guess I am an old guy and my PM's quit working for a while.  I discovered it was a compatability issue, that Simon and Routy figured out.

http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1331874892/0

I clicked on the compatability thing at the end of my address line (I have IE 9) and presto chango the PM's started working again.  I think I posted it somewhere, to thank Simon, but I am not sure now.  I wonder if all the new guys have the same issue and just don't realize it.

By the way:

I just sent Oldfeller a test PM to see if it worked. I'm at work on a laptop so it might work. I'll try it again from home later. Haven't had any luck PMing from home.

So, from what folks are saying over at the source threads is that MicroSoft Internet Explorer 9 and above aren't playing well with YABB freeware any more because of some compatability thing that MicroSoft is pushing at the world again.    Building "incompatability" into their software then expecting everybody else to chase their "new" standard.

FireFox still does good, as does Chrome.

Both are free, so if you want your PMs to go through get yourself one and use it to PM when you need to PM somebody.    You will find Chrome to be very fast, but different.  FF is faster than IE 9 and up, but you have to let it install the necessary bits (ongoing) to keep it MicroSoft and Flash and Java friendly.    Chrome doesn't try to be MicroSoft friendly, so it doesn't matter in Chrome per se.

===========

Hey, yet more for me to like about my old white Linux Mint box and open source softwares like FF and Chrome.    My Linux Mint distro keeps up with all this sort of trash and sends me necessary updates as needed completely automatically.

Them boring Linux Mint boxes, they just work .....                   (but MicroSoft hates them)

I've lost my inbox twice after contact with the same user.
while I can't be certain it's maliciousness on his part,  there certainly is an issue.

this is the main reason I request an email from prospective buyers and provide and addy thru the email button below.

Question, Is the email button safer for providing your addy than typing out your addy every time you want a response?

certainly it's easier if you ever update your addy or want to retract it all together.

I don't think any users have hacked into the PM system and are deleting messages from other users that may have sent to your inbox.. I just think the PM system is flaky as all get-out.. don't trust it.

Running Firefox on a Linux platform doesn't help either.

If someone sent me a PM and I did not follow up, I apologize and please resend it.

Hi,

I've been trying to send PM's to people but the error message sez I have less than 10 posts, which is not correct. I even contributed some $$$ to the site hoping it would trigger an administrator to update my "messages posted" count.

This is a wonderful resource and I would like to also contact individual members without clogging up the main forum with stuff that wouldn't be interesting to the h\general crowd.

Thanks,

John in the PRC

Looks like you have 3 more to go, carguyz.  It might be that posts aren't counted on certain boards(?) I don't think anyone will berate you too badly over a couple of fluff posts.

Fluff? I thought I was most serious.

Maybe only the first post on a topic is counted.

Thanks,

Well at least you can send PMs as John in Kalifornia.  I think the software messes with one of your accounts if it detects two accounts from the same IP(?)  but glad you got it going..

(That's tech support around here.  Wait till the guy works around the problem, then.. THERE YOU GO!  Cheesy )
