Update: Dnepr sidecar project v1.0 & gardening
05/21/12 at 17:17:03

This thread will feature realtime photos on the progress
of all 3 of my summer projects and your input will not only
be highly appreciated but actually reflected in the outcome.

They're here!   Cheesy

..

I got 2 of them you see, one complete to mount on maybe
a used BMW (that I have not even purchased yet) and another
one without a chassis or wheel, just the boot (2x1 shipping costs).
... why?  you may ask

..

Cause I'm turning that one into the coolest kid-carriage EVER!

Not quite sure how yet, all I know is that it involves an axle or 2,
a lot of welding, some form of turning mechanism, anywhere form
3 to 5 wheels and a bicycle, or half of one for power, that will be
probably placed in the rear and not on the side, don't know yet.

...any ideas on the design?

..

It is not heavy but it is long (about 70" x 20" x 20" / 180x50x50cm),
this is going to be one cool, big, ride!

..

Now back to the other one, first step was to get it off the pallet
and attach the wheel.

..

Done.

..

Then, with a bit of creativity, to make it mobile,
cause this one is kinda heavy (200lb?).

..

Tada!  It's off the ground and it rolls.
It can now be pushed around, you can sit on it and it can be crashed!

..

some more unpacking

..

came with a vinyl cover, vinyl seats and tool bag.

..

The tools are hilarious! I truly know now why Russia went under.
The round thing is a pump that srsly belongs in a museum.

..

The backrest flips forward to reveal an ample trunk.
The locking mechanism is the strangest thing ever,
kinda hard to explain, the "key" turns a spring-screw
that releases the latch.

...

Well that seat will require some re-enforcement.
(and sounds like my old spring bed at summer camp)

..

So there it goes for now in the garage nicely tucked in
while I'll calmly look for a suiting motorcycle to attach it to,
maybe even a savage, need to figure out the legal DMV stuff first.
Anyone attached one of these things to a bike before?

..

And this is my 3rd project; potatoes.
Anybody know anything about planting potatoes?  Seriously.

..

Today I cleared up a patch about 3 x 20' from the back
of my garden, tomorrow I'll plant the already rooting spuds.
Next week cucumbers and squash.

Nop, no wheat, lol.

But people must understand the fact that wheat itself is not bad,
it is the commercial ultra-refined flour made from the
modern gmo "dwarf" wheat variant that is the problem.

Is kinda like comparing rough-cut cane sugar to GMO-HFCS.

And of course frequency and amount of consumption of this pleb poison!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

aaaanyway...

I had my day off yesterday and all 3 projects are up and running.

1) I got a large stable metal frame (from an old bed)
for the bicycle-cart, this is a good start.

I still don't know if I want a trike, like an Ice cream bike or
just a classic style bicycle side-car attached to a beach cruiser;
the trike idea kinda appeals more to me.

..
(2 wheels won't do, 3 is the minimum for this project, but you get the idea)

..
(imagine the dnepr in the front, yeah, the front-end would hang a bit but it's pretty light)

..
(imagine the dnepr on the side, the other side)

2) the motorcycle side-car is getting tricky already, sometimes
I fuc7ing HATE germany and it's mindless bureaucratic BULL SH1T
socialist regulatory über-complicated system dammit, now they
want proof of purchase (a title) and a TÜV/CE certificate (the
equivalent to DOT) just to start the process to see IF is even
roadworthy and can be eventually permitted to be attached
to a motorbike, which also needs to be factory sidecar-certified.
Of all that I have none.

In neighboring Holland there is NO control for motorbikes,
just insure them and you are done, dammed germans.

Roll Eyes

...however there is more than one way to skin a cat
(where does that saying come from anyway,  Schrödinger?)

3) Gardening; it rained yesterday, good for the spuds.

A good friend of mine keeps leaves packed around his potato plants.  It must help achieve the proper pH balance 'cause the plants get really green.

Stimp, the projects look great. I think that you should go with 3 wheels for the bike/cart/sidecar....im sorry I dont really know what to call it. Simple is usually better when you let kids play with it.

As for potatos, they like a sandy soil, makes it easier for the root (what you eat) to get large, and delicious. And, yes the pH is always important. You should consider having your soil tested by your local county extension office.

Oh wow, I didn't realize when you said "kid carriage" you meant a pedalable thing the adult can ride too..  was thinking more along the lines of a jog-stroller.

Greetings wambr all the way to Russia!
I'm pleased to see how international this forum is getting.

Yeah boule I originally just wanted to do make it simple, like this:

http://www.wimp.com/babystroller/

but after thinking about it a bit, I now think I want 1HP on it (human power)
it just makes more sense, to me, to be able to go about a couple of
miles around or to the store or whatever, then again I could do both!!

...how does "now with detachable bike" sound?

Cheesy

a project (noun): ПЛАН,  проект, хобби

A project is: a hobby, an interest, a plan;
something to do with my time and my hands this summer.

In this case 2 things:

- to build a cart for my child

- and to buy a large motorcycle for my new sidecar.

-----------------------------------------------------------

wambr, do you have a Suzuki Savage in Russia??

Do you have a photo?

Put it here:

See you soon, you can practice your english here any time.

--  UPDATE - 12.JUNE.12  - UPDATE  --

As I mentioned in another post earlier today:

http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1339695450
(for details of this band-drive bike click this link).

...the new bike, 3rd wheel and axle for my hack project just arrived, yay!

..

The bike is a "new tech/hybrid" direct-drive model, so lets see how
the plastic/carbon fiber parts and kevlar band hold up with time.

I had not bought a new bike in over 20 years so when comparing
this one and other models I've seen lately to my old Costco
bulletproof mountainbike these seem kinda light and flimsy,
...mmmm, Chinese should be EXPERTS at this sh1t, go figure!.

On the positive side after test ridding this "brand-name" bike
for a few hours I'm happy to report it rides well and feels solid

..

..

..

..

This is sorda how the finished vehicle is going to potentially look.

..

The wheel, tyre and axle I found dirt cheap online
and come from a 1980's Kawasaki Z440-C,
a new chance at life for a good ol' classic bike.

..

..

I really wanted to make a tricycle with 2 wheels up front but
I decided against it because it would just be SO long and heavy
making it pretty hard to steer and also interfering with visibility
and not being able to see the holes, bumps and squirrels up front,
so I think we're gonna go for an old fashion side-hack.

..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are a few bike I found online and ideas on how to attach it (the most difficult part).

..

..

..

..

..

..

Now I need to find some form of suspension to be placed between the frame and car.

..

..

Next project, if this one doesn't kill me like a train de-railing,
will probably be something sorta like this, maybe next year:

..

...and yes, I'm reliving my childhood through my kid and loving it!

--------------------------------------------------

Garden update

Potatoes & tomato plants.

Status: So far so good.

I think I would build something much lighter & pull it behind a bicycle. Stopping wont work well at all & youll be turned by the mass of the sidecar.

Can't wait to see this carriage operational!  Keep up the pics!

Your potato plants look good!  Don't have any very recent pics of mine, but this was 3 weeks ago.  They started flowering about 10 days ago and are about hip-high now.  I think we planted a few too many...   Wink
