Sticky throttle cable or gunked up carb?

Hey everyone...I have a '97 and she's been sitting in the garage for about 5 years waiting and waiting. I am now able to get her up and running, but have encountered an issue or two.

I replaced the battery, about to do an oil change and fresh gas. The first issue is when I tried to start her the throttle grip wouldn't move. I moved it by hand at the throttle wheel and it was very stiff and didn't spring back as it should.

So the question is...is it a sticky throttle cable or is the carb gunked up and the butterfly won't move? Which would be the first thing you would check in order of probability and simplicity.

Reply #1 - 05/15/12 at 07:26:51 I would guess its in the cable, but youll know for certain where the drag is if you grab the carb end of it & try to swing the lever the cable swings.
