N00b Idling Issue
05/08/12 at 14:23:35

Just finished my BCB mod a couple of months ago and now my bike is having idling issues.  It’s a 2000 LS650 w/ 18,000 miles.  Bike started right up after the mod and has been running fine until the other day.  It started up fine then died in 3rd gear, started up without any change to petcock or choke.  It died at almost every light when I was idling after that on the way to work and back home.  Most of the time it would fire back up without choke or prime but had to do both a couple of times.  The bike will start up and run for a few secs then it dies and will not idle for long.  Vacuum hose and fuel line seem to be clear and secure.
Please Help me trouble shoot.

Loosen your gas cap and see if it still does it. Maybe the vent system is plugged.

When mine did this a few years ago it was the fuel petcock.  When it acts up again, put the petcock in the prime position and see what happens.  It doesn't hurt to use the prime position while you are riding.  Just make sure to put it back in the ON position when you shut down and park the bike to prevent fuel flow in case the float valve leaks.

Issue solved sorry forgot to reply back… Thanks for all the reply’s
It was a clogged air filter!!!  Pulled the filter out and had not issues so I replaced it with a K&N High Flow filter and now it seems to be running fine.
I lost the air box metal cover the over day while ridding across some train tracks.  I didn’t notice until I got home and by the time I went back to pick it up it was flattened by a train. Don’t know if this really does anything but my filter did get plugged a couple of days after this.
BTW here are some picks of the BCB mod, still need to wrap the header and paint the muffler.
