Can the head of a LS650 fit the crank case of a LS
05/05/12 at 16:32:53

Hi I have brought a LS650 motor to replace the LS400. How ever the 400 has a 5 speed trans and the 650 has a 4. Can I put the head of the 650 onto the 400 bottom end if I replace the con rod and piston from 400 to 650? My understanding is both motors are the same except the bore and stroke.

I think stroke is a function of how far the journal is from centerline on the crank, not rod length.

YOure gonna have a 4 speed 650..

Thank you for your help, A 4 speed it is. Does anyone know of any other trouble I might encounter fitting the 650 into a 400 frame. Will the front sprocket of my 400 fit onto the 650?

Did the 650 not come with one? IDK if theyll swap, but I wouldnt be at all surprised if they did. Suzuki seems to have really tried to keep the number of inventory items down to a minimum

The 650 is belt driven and I want to use the chain drive from my 400. Is it easy to convert the front from belt to chain sprocket?

paulmarshall Hi! no difficulties in principle to replace the cylinder with the piston and con rod from engine ls 400 to ls 650. all details are identical. We (in Russia) has been doing. easier of course replace engine assy. ...

Yeah, it's not bigtwin, but it is the best half of it

thanks. I think I will swap complete motors and convert to front sprocket to match the existing rear sprocket.
