Pilot Jet Trouble

Hey guys. I've got the car apart to clean it, try the white spacer mod, and go up a jet size.

Everything has gone pretty smoothly until it came time to get that Pilot Jet out.

I could see that someone before me messed it up a little. When I finally got a screwdriver that would fit down there, the jet began breaking up when I tried to get it out.

I just sprayed some liquid wrench down there to hopefully loosen it up.

What can I do before I totally strip the head on that jet?

Also what can I do if I do totally strip the head on this jet?

Show us pics if it turns into a shiny puddle.

All the rubber parts are still out.
I don't have a butane torch or anything, just bic lighters and a grill lighter and those didn't do the trick.

All I've done so far is continue to further destroy that weak brass jet. I think I'll have to take my carb to someone else to have them see what they can do to get it out.

Can I still run the bike as-is without getting that jet out? The pilot jet should still pass fuel through the rest of the body of the jet, maybe?
The Savage is my only vehicle and I've got to work tomorrow morning.

Look at the jet, is anything in it?

If not, slap it together & run it.

Good view of the jet here, but I'll link it because the pic is huge.

Yeah, I figured it'd take a drill and some kind of extractor. My Master Mechanic of an Uncle is in town, maybe he can help me so I don't have to go to a shop.

Those brass jets are very soft, easy screw extractor kit should do the trick...

Indeed they are soft.

Seeing as how they're so soft my Master Mechanic of an Uncle simply placed a Phillips screwdriver onto the jet, pounded it into the head of the jet with a hammer, turned the screwdriver and out came the jet. The jet is still smashed onto the head of the screwdriver.

It took him all of barely 5 minutes to get that thing outta there from the time he walked through the door.
Cool

I have a half day of work tomorrow so I'll put everything back together with a new 55 pilot up from the previous 52.5, spacer mod, and see how the carb responds.

Thanks for the replies, fellas.

Blow compressed air backward through the pilot passageway, from the port in the front of the carb
Then follow up blasting it with a can of carb spray cleaner using the tiny red straw

Spray some WD40 or similar before putting in the new pilot jet
It makes life easier
