COLD BLOODED SAVAGE?
04/26/12 at 12:59:05
I'm just curious... Would you guys describe the Savage as Cold-blooded? Does it take a while to warm up and be ride-able? Does opening up the exhaust and adding a cone filter (and properly re-jetting the carb of course) make it any better or worse?
I never got to ride my Savage before it was torn down for my build, so I don't really know quite what to expect, but I've gotten my Nighthawk out a few times this year, and was reminded of what a pain it is to warm up; starts easily, and runs great once it's warm, but it hates to go anywhere until it's good and ready. No fun for city commuting, which is what the Savage is ultimately for.
Any thoughts?

Never jet for a cold engine... jetting should be done for a fully warm engine.
If it needs choke until warm,.. that's what choke is for...

can't remember what it was like stock.
but once rejeted, it starts quite easily w/o choke, 1 knotch to warm for a minute for higher rev's, and it's warm in a mile of easy residential going. choke in and hit the freeway at full scream.

NO WAY!
Thanks for humoring me gentlemen. I suppose I would have read about it here if it was a common problem, but boy it sure is a pain with my Nighthawk; things still sputtering and complaining until I'm a block away from my house... Carbs are in great shape, it's just a quirk of those bikes, and older Honda's in general. I've had a few. Don't really want to run until everyting's good and completely warmed up. Looking forward to getting my Roadster on the road...

On a cold day it's about 2 blocks with the choke for me...
On a warm day, I usually don't need the choke.
