Cam chain tensioner spring

A few weeks ago I opened my engine looking for the origin of a very light tic noise that had been puzzling me for a while. Found the cam chain had to be replaced. Took 6 weeks to have the chain and gasket delivered by the importer, and when I started to mount the chain back I found the tensioner spring is missing. I don´t really know how I lost it but kids are prime suspects

. As I could not find the spring for sale alone in Brazil the question is what replacement could I use?

The original spring is "WAY,WAY," to tight , there is no point in keeping the chain that tight.

The adjuster can't back-up once its out and a gentle 2# push is enough to keep the slack out of the chain. Also if your new , milder , spring is not long enough to push the pluncher all the way out then you will not have to fret about it getting "pushed" out so soon.

I've got over 30,000 miles on a milder spring.
I also did the Versey thing to the adjuster just to be sure !

As for shipping to Brazil unfortunatly I only had bad experiences for the last 30 years I´ve been here. If I could trust the mail I would buy everything in USA. Even with the 60% import taxes + 17% state taxes we pay parts would be cheaper.

30,000 miles are really impressive to me. I have been running this in Km. My Savage just turned 58000 miles and I´m installing it´s 4th chain!

It's plain spring steel with closed ends, nothing fancy about it.

And I've got 45,000 miles on the same chain with the verslavy.

I've got 42,000 total ... the third chain is in there now and the plunger is just getting started on its run / while the bolt is in the extended hole.
