Knicks in the belt...
04/20/12 at 00:59:04

Upon an evening inspection I discovered a few knicks in the belt. I do not know what to make of them so I figured I would post some pics for the experts here... are these knicks something to be concerned about?

YES. Definitely. Remove those burs, they will shred your belt. You're better off with missing parts of teeth than jagged chunks of teeth sticking into the belt.

Those nicks are on the outside of the belt, and those are just ribs, not functional teeth.  As such, not a concern at all.

Probably caused by rocks coming up off the road.

HOWEVER, I would check the inside of the belt carefully to see if any other rocks got caught up on the teeth.

Whew glad to hear it's not an instant replace! I'll give her an inspection before my ride tomorrow on the inner loop. I appreciate the advice from all.

My main concern was that such knicks woulds compromise the tension strength of the belt, being that it is the item that converts the engine power to drive the bike, but now from my understanding the inside of the belt is where you want to check the integrity, correct?
