Tips on removing the oil filter
04/12/12 at 11:37:16

I did an oil change yesterday and I always dread doing them because of having to mess with the filter. Every time I open up the cover oil goes all down the side of the motor and a little on my exhaust and there is almost no room for me to get a rag in there and wipe it all off. Does anyone have any tips keeping the oil from getting everywhere down the side of the engine?

Usually, I just wash it afterwards.   Cool

but a sheet of aluminum on top of the header will keep it clean.

I usually stuff some paper towels between the engine and the header pipe to catch the oil before it gets all over everything. Works pretty good.

i stuff a rag there too
i drain the oil with bike level than pull the filter cover with the bike on the sidestand..still a lil mess but ..not bad
after i get the filter out bike goes back up to level and a lil more oil comes out the drain.
