well i just got done rebuilding the top end, it started up just fine and idled perfect but in the midrange it would bog out, so in the midst of getting the carb tuned in it started acting funny, now it wont start unless its wide open and then it still bogs and wont stay running. ended up noticing that the regulater had a burnt up wire. i looked at the wiring diagram and it shows two sets of three wires comming from the regulator. now when i look at the wires there are the three yellow wires for the stator and only two coming frome the other side of the regulator, on the harness there are three, but only conecting into two. also i have a 97 that i think i could pull the regulator from but am unsure if the interchange, any help or advice out be greatly appreciated. thanks yall

also i forgot to add that its an 04 that im working on, i had heard that in 04 i think that they changed the wiring for the regulator, maybe mistaken though

both years 87(covers to 95) and 04 have 6 wire from the regulator/ rectifier..

tho in the diagrams they come out at different positions also 87 colors are same after 1st connector in the harness 04 changes colors>
R = R/B
B/W=B/W, O/B=O/B
not seein a decomp selenoid on the 87 diagram

Did you touch anything else in your top end rebuild ? If so, look there for the problem. Like said, it should run on the battery.
