S40 or ls650
04/06/12 at 20:10:57

I'm ordering a tkat fork brace and the manufacturer wants to know if my 2006 is an s40 or ls650. Any idea which it is? I thought they were both the same, although when I look at a parts fiche for a 2006 it is called out as an ls650.

Up to 2004, it's an ls650 savage.  2005 and newer, and it's an ls650 S40-Boulavard. Shocked

S40 it is, 'though, amusingly, I have the owners manual that came with my '07, and it says "LS650" on the cover; and various of the drawings inside are clearly of an S40.

In any case, you're going to love the TKat. FWIW, my $.02 on removing the plastic fork guards: tapping front-back-front-back, etc., with a piece of wood & a hammer, you can lift them off the lowers then cut them with a pair of scissors. If you do a whole lot of anal-retentive fidgeting with the installation (I did), it may take you all of half an hour. Enjoy!

Side covers say S40, but has LS650 on cover of owners manual. I tell people it's a Savage.

Yes, finally; wisdom.  Smiley
LS650 Savage from the 1980's to 2004, and LS650 S40 from 2005 to present.
Next year ?
Who knows ?

S40 has a fork deflector, he may put a step in there to accommodate it.

My 2005 S40 has a Boulavard badge on the tank. All Suzuki's became Boulavards in 2005.  S40,C50, C50T, M50, etc.

Beacon, if your bike is a 2005 or above it's an S40, if below its a "savage" or an "ls650".. they have made minor changes to the bike 3 times since 1986, but those tiny changes are enough to impact certain parts and stuff.. aha
