The payment/delivery details still have to be cleared up
but hopefully it will be here at the end of the month all
the way from Bulgaria (well over 1,000 miles away),
hope it's not a scam because the price was very reasonable
but the seller seems to have good reputation and doing
business in MC parts since 2008; wish me luck.

And no, I am not going to hook it up to my little 125cc
commuter, lol ... I'm kinda outta money right now for
these kind of things but I will be purchasing a larger
Japanese roadbike (400cc and up) sometime this or
next year for this specific purpose whenever the right
deal and vehicle comes along, maybe even a savage,
we'll see.

This is what the ad said:

"NEW SIDECAR FOR DNEPR MOTORBIKE. MADE

Those things require a whole different approach to riding, experienced people have been seen riding into oncoming because they got into a corner too fast. Last one I heard about was a fatality.. setup requires some knowledge, surviving operating requires a great deal of attention. Too small a bike would be a very bad thing. When you take off, theres a little right turn it wants to do, when you stop, it wants to swing you left some, IIRC,, Theres a guy on here who is very well versed.

Thanks a lot for the tips and warning Justin,
boy oh boy, this is gonna be fun!!

yeah, I'll take it easy and gather experience little by little,
as I said, this is a 2 to 3 year project, no rush.

first it has to get here, then find the right bike, then hook em'
up properly, then get them certified by the dmv, and theeen I'll
hit the road at 15mph for a while till I get the hang and feel of it.

-----

And yeah... a close friend of the family died on one of those, he
had polio in one leg and a cane but loved bikes, I guess he felt
free, whole again and equal to everyone else on top of one, he
had a few low scooters first, then a trike, then an inverted trike
(2 wheels up front) and then he got a bmw with a sidecar, flipped
it over on a curve on his first test run, broke his neck, died doing
what he loved is the silver lining here I guess, moron.

Congratulations and good luck with it.  I think hacks look pretty cool but I have zero experience with them.

Was looking at one of those attached to a Ural.  It was very reasonably priced but I didn't have the money before someone else

GOO BUY !!!

IIRC it was Phelonius from Washington/Oregon State who had a Savage with a sidecar.

IIRC he moved to Hawaii, but I haven't heard from him in quite a while.

I confirm that, unless the sidecar wheel is linked to the rear wheel for traction, the MC/sidecar combo will steer towards the sidecar on accelleration, and away from it on braking.

The latter may be solved by linking the sidecar wheel to the rear brake of the MC (you can see it has a BIG drum brake).

Consider reducing the final drive by a good 15-20%, because the MC will have to pull a good 150Kg extra mass.
Having a final drive that enables you to reach 120mph is pointless if, with the sidecar attached, you can only manage 50mph in 3rd or 4th gear, and no more.

Also, an oil cooler should be fitted, as the bike will be much slower and more laden at the same time.

 Cool

My family had a Dnepr with the side car for many years on the farm. Used it to haul feed and fencing stuffs around or for a quick(ish) jaunt into town. Too bad the motorcycle didn't come with your sidecar, it was a fun little toy Cheesy

Seeing those pics brought back some good memories. And they are 100% correct on how it changes the ride. My mother has a 1200gs BMW with a hack on it that has hydraulic lift to adjust the ride height of the hack on the fly so the weight distribution evens the bike out.
