I always wear a full face or a flip up -- jaw protection is pretty important for us dentists.

I only needed to wear it once,

but the events necessitating the helmet transpired at far to rapid a pace for me to put on while they were happening, and I had no idea they were going to happen.

About adult helmet laws...

well the thing is like this, I always use one,
even for short runs to the market on hot days,
I not only use common sense but I've spent a lot
of time in hospitals and I've seen things, bad things,
unspeakable things, unrepairable things because of the
lack of seatbelts and MC gear, however,  i also happen
to strongly disagree with daddy government sticking their
coked-up noses EVERYWHERE, statism is an idea looong
passed its usefulness and these kind of choices should be OURS!
get it?

Laws in general are for people who refuse to take responsibility
for their lives and actions and instead simply (and lazily) let others
take all kinds of decisions for them, and this, of course, can never
ever end well.

Simply put, 501 people cannot take away the rights of 499 and
much less one lawmaker the rights away from a whole country.

Natural law is all the law a healthy world needs.

I went from a FF to a FF flip-up. Yes wearing glasses is hassle with a FF, but not so bad with a flip-up. It beats having your face ground down to your skull bones without one.

I believe in ATGATT (all the gear all the time). If it's too hot for the gear, it's too hot to ride.

BTW Laws or not, stupid people will continue to ride and die. No helmet, drinking and riding, doing wheelies and stoppies, speeding etc. It's nature's way of culling the stupid from the heard.

I'm looking for a good flip up or modular helmet now, looking at the  bell revolver evo: http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/bell-revolver-evo-hi-vis-helmet  or the Nolan n43: http://www.revzilla.com/product/nolan-n43-trilogy-helmet

I just want to put my helmet on without taking my glasses off

Yup -- that's some seriously bunged up gear and bones.  I have no problem letting you one-up me in that department!

As for me, bike was totaled, helmet trashed and left shoulder blade chipped.  No serious or permanent harm to me (as opposed to the bike), and the ER doc was impressed with my armored leather jacket.  He rides a Victory, and he commented that, after seeing my shoulder, he was in the market for a "biker" jacket in the traditional black leather with armor!

Lost, with the flip-up I put my glasses on through the flip-up with the helmet on. It takes some pushing and wiggling to get them seated right, but it seems to work better that way.

STIMPY I understand well what you say.

I have two comments:

1) Your personal, individual rights stop where the rights of the collectivity start (or someone else's, i.e. thou shalt not play the trumpet at 3:00 a.m.)

2) You are welcome to ride naked on a gravel pathway for all I'm concerned, or bareheaded at 100mph, but don't expect a doctor to waste his time mending your wounds or a therapist with your physio just because you wanted the wind in your hair.

If you still live in Germany, you will have noticed that lane splitting is not illegal, i.e. they will not fine you. However, that does not mean that if you get squeezed between two cars it will not be your fault...

So... I acknowledge you the right to split lanes and all that, just don't get stuck (or worse) under MY car! (I don't want the hassle of paying a lawyer to prove I was right in the first place...)

I started off with a FF and will continue to ride that way.
My GF wore a half helmet a few times when I first got my Savage because she didn't like the feeling of being enclosed by the FF.

I just bought her a 3/4 helmet for a bit more protection. When it's time to replace that one maybe I can work her up to the FF.

This is the helmet I bought her. I  tried it out myself and really liked it. Visibility is awesome. But the lack of chin and jaw protection keeps me in my FF

Fish,, she seriously needs to consider comparing the temporary feeling of being "enclosed" with the potential for permanent disfigurement.
That "enclosed" feeling is security, that "free" feeling is a serious risk,

Pesci,, While I understand your argument, because I, too, have had it preached to me all my life, I have to disagree here.

1) Your personal, individual rights stop where the rights of the collectivity start (or someone else's, i.e. thou shalt not play the trumpet at 3:00 a.m.)

A rider who chooses to ride unprotected isnt keeping you awake, he has committed no affront to anyone. Your complaint is that his actions put your pocketbook at risk. As I see it, that is a problem,, & the problem is that your decisions should not be tied to my pocketbook,,I should not be expected to pay for your bad decisions, nor you for mine, the problem is that there IS a collective, & once people are left solely responsible for their own lives & future, we will se a much more responsible & wisely behaved population.
By your own argument, that risky behavior isnt to be allowed, a case could be made to ban motorcycles completely, & there are plenty of cagers who would happily vote them off the road.
Parachuting? Where is there any socially noticeable reward to be derived? At least a bike can take a man to work, which benefits "the collective",, Jumping out of an airplane only creates a risk for the collective,, it should be halted, immediately! I demand it!

The Libertarian principle is one of freedom, AND REsponsibility,, & would benefit the world immensely.
