Cavie Full Member Offline My wife made me do it Posts: 107 Port charlotte Fl Gender:	Rear hub 03/25/12 at 18:58:41 I seemd to have some play in the rear hub. What's the expected milage on the rubber shock absorbers in the hub. I have 18,000. Play is front to back and side to side. Is this normal?

The only play I would consider normal would be forwards and backwards.

Thats the way I see it. I suspect the front to rear is normal. It's the side to side that has me concerned. Angry

Belt pulley is supported by a single large radial clearance large ball bearing that is firmly trapped "Radially Only" between steel bushings internal to the wheel and axle.

The rear pulley is separate by design, so it can roll and rock separate from the wheel controlled only by the rubber shock bushings. The more wear on those rubber bushings, the more it can move.

In other words, side to side tilt is OK. Don't sweat it -- it is normal.

Some people replace their rubber bits along the way, others don't.

Cheesy

Some people try to "track" their belts according to the way the rear pulley is when the bike is jacked up, others realise it tracks from one side to the other when decelerating and accelerating (tilt changes according to the load).

Other people just use a 4 1/2" grinder to bevel the sides of the teeth on the belt so it doesn't squeak no matter what it is doing.

Hearing a little whine from the left rear. Assuming it to be normal belt noise. My VOL has a driveshaft. The movement seemednormal to me based on what is saw how it was designed it had to have movement in all directions.
