so why are we talking about what it does to latex as if that were relevant?

Probably because I was kinda disputin the statement made about mineral spirits eating up latex gloves.
And I still think we are talkin about something different than plain ole mineral spitits and genuine latex gloves.
Seems like someone would have googled it by now !

google is a accepted verb, means to look it up on the internet, non search engine specific.

I was going to go soak a latex glove in mineral spirits for a week or 3, but I got better things to do,.....trouble is I ain't doin those either !
But all I read on every mineral spirits site, is the advice to use rubber/latex gloves to protect hands.
Real reason for the post is how I just remembered how yrs ago we used to make tires nice and black lookin. Brake fluid ! Thats right, rubbing brake fluid on the tires made them look better than some of the commercial stuff. But it supposedly wasn't good for tires at all, mainly because it actually attacked the rubber, and thats why it made them so black. But I don't remember it ruining any tires, or causing the sidewalls to crack, or any thing else. So I conclude that if brake fluid didn't ruin them, mineral spirits sure ain't going too.
